Puccini’s “Manon Lescaut” at the Wiener Staatsoper

On June 20, 2016, Marcello Giordani will appear on the stage of the Wiener Staatsoper to reprise a role that he has performed in some of the major opera houses of the world: the Chevalier Des Grieux in Puccini’s Manon Lescaut. From his debut in the role in 2000, in Zürich, to his performance at the Metropolitan in January 2008, e more recently in the Teatro Municipal of Sao Paulo in Brazil, his interpretation of the role has been acclaimed by audiences and critics. Of his performance as Manon’s lover at the Metropolitan, the critic of the New York Times wrote: “Here was the real thing, an Italian tenor who sang with ringing power and sweeping fervor.” Sharing the stage with Giordani will be renowned soprano Anna Netrebko in the role of the protagonist, and baritone David Pershall as Lescaut.

“Manon Lescaut” at Staatsoper Hamburg

In December 2015, Marcello will return to the Staatsoper Hamburg to reprise a role that he has performed in most of the major opera houses of the world: Des Grieux in Puccini’s Manon Lescaut. From his debut in the role in 2000, in Zürich, to his performance at the Metropolitan in January 2008, e more recently in the Teatro Municipal of Sao Paulo in Brazil, he has been acclaimed by audiences and critics.   Of his performance as Manon’s lover at the Metropolitan, the critic of the New York Times wrote: “Here was the real thing, an Italian tenor who sang with ringing power and sweeping fervor.” On the stage of the Staatsoper he will be joined by soprano Amarilli Nizza as Manon, baritone Kartal Karagadik as Lescaut, and bass Tigran Martirossian as Geronte.

“Tosca” at the Metropolitan Opera

On November 6,  2015, Marcello returns to the Metropolitan Opera to sing one of his signature roles, Cavaradossi in Puccini’s Tosca. He sang Cavaradossi at the Met in previous seasons, and has appeared in the role in all of the major opera houses the world over, including Japan and China. Of his performance at the Met in 2013, the critic of the New York Times praised his “powerful bright top notes and an ardent, expressive style…” His performance at the Royal Opera House in 2011, was unanimously acclaimed by the press: “Cavaradossi was a triumph”, wrote Classical Source, [His voice] is a force-of-nature that makes Cavaradossi heroic.” In this production of Puccini’s masterpiece by Luc Bondy, Marcello will star opposite two acclaimed sopranos who share the role of Tosca: Maria Guleghina (Nov. 6, 11) and Oksana Dika (Nov.14, 18, 21).

5th Int’l Vocal Competition “Marcello Giordani” – European Edition

The Musical Academy Marcello Giordani YAP+ organizes and presents the 5th Annual International Vocal Competition. The competition, now in its fifth year, takes place in November 25 – 29, 2015, and it aims to launch the careers of talented young opera singers.

The competition is open to singers of all nationalities between 18 and 40 years of age.

The selection and admission to the competition will take place following the evaluation, by a committee, of the registration form and the audio and video materials submitted by the candidate (mp3 or YouTube link). A maximum of 130 candidates will be admited to the competition.

On October 30, 2014, Marcello Giordani returns to the Metropolitan Opera to reprise the role of Radames in Sonja Frizell’s spectacular production of Verdi’s Aida which premiered at the Met in January 1988, and has encountered enormous popular and critical acclaim through the years. Because of its spectacular pageantry, Aida has been called “the grandest of grand opera”. But for all its grandiosity, Aida is also an “intimate” love story where the characters’ conflicting passions and emotions play against the broad background of patriotic and religious values. Puccini’s Turandot at ABAO-OLBE opera of Bilbao

On May 17, 2014, Marcello Giordani will appear on the stage of ABAO-OLBE in Bilbao to sing the role of the unknown prince in Puccini’s last opera Turandot, next to the Turandot of Austrian soprano Martina Serafin. After his debut in the role at Torre del Lago in 2003, he has appeared as Calaf in some of the most important opera theaters of the world including the Metropolitan Opera of New York, the Teatro alla Scala of Milan, the Terme of Caracalla, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and the Opera Theatre of Budapest.
