5th Int’l Vocal Competition “Marcello Giordani” – European Edition
The Musical Academy Marcello Giordani YAP+ organizes and presents the 5th Annual International Vocal Competition. The competition, now in its fifth year, takes place in November 25 – 29, 2015, and it aims to launch the careers of talented young opera singers.
The competition is open to singers of all nationalities between 18 and 40 years of age.
The selection and admission to the competition will take place following the evaluation, by a committee, of the registration form and the audio and video materials submitted by the candidate (mp3 or YouTube link). A maximum of 130 candidates will be admited to the competition.
The pre-selection is COMPLETELY FREE
The candidates found eligible to participate in the competition, will have to pay a participation fee amounting to € 80.00, to be paid by bank transfer: c / c: 173/1000/5624 Headed to “Atelier Musicale Young Artists Program Srl” – Bank: Intesa Sanpaolo – Iban: IT71N0306984620100000005624 specifying its causal (Competition Marcello Giordani November 2015)
Each candidate must submit five opera arias, including recitative and cabaletta, to be performed in the original language (at least three of the selections in Italian).
The registration form must be completed online at http://www.yapmusicplus.com/concorso/iscrizione-online.php no later than Wednesday, November 15, 2015.
The application must include the following attachments:
- A brief curriculum vitae (no more than one page) in Word format
- A photocopy of the identity document in format jpeg or pdf
- Photos in format jpeg
- Audio tracks mp3 or wav (or YouTube link) of 2 opera arias in the original language
If you have any problems or difficulties with the online form, send the REGISTRATION INFO (Name, Voice type, Nationality, age, residence, telephone and E-mail) and PERFORMANCE PROGRAM ( 5 arias, author, Opera and aria to the following email: [email protected] with the above required attachments.
The competition is divided into three phases:
- ELIMINATION – November 25, 26 and 27, 2015 from 10:30 AM
Performance of a piece, chosen by the candidate, among those submitted. The Jury may require the performance of a second piece. If deemed necessary, the jury may interrupt the performance of the piece at any time. - SEMIFINAL – November 28, 2015 from 10:30 AM
Performance of a piece chosen by the Jury from among those submitted by the candidate. Execution of a second piece may be required. The Jury, if it sees fit, may stop the execution of the piece at any time. - FINAL – November 29, 2015 at 21:00
Performances of one or more pieces, at the sole discretion of the Jury, those presented by the competitor.

“Manon Lescaut” at Staatsoper Hamburg
In December 2015, Marcello will return to the Staatsoper Hamburg to reprise a role that he has performed in most of the major opera houses of the world: Des Grieux in Puccini’s Manon Lescaut. From his debut in the role in 2000, in Zürich, to his performance at the Metropolitan in January 2008, e more recently in the Teatro Municipal of Sao Paulo in Brazil, he has been acclaimed by audiences and critics. Of his performance as Manon’s lover at the Metropolitan, the critic of the New York Times wrote: “Here was the real thing, an Italian tenor who sang with ringing power and sweeping fervor.” On the stage of the Staatsoper he will be joined by soprano Amarilli Nizza as Manon, baritone Kartal Karagadik as Lescaut, and bass Tigran Martirossian as Geronte.

“Tosca” at the Metropolitan Opera
On November 6, 2015, Marcello returns to the Metropolitan Opera to sing one of his signature roles, Cavaradossi in Puccini’s Tosca. He sang Cavaradossi at the Met in previous seasons, and has appeared in the role in all of the major opera houses the world over, including Japan and China. Of his performance at the Met in 2013, the critic of the New York Times praised his “powerful bright top notes and an ardent, expressive style…” His performance at the Royal Opera House in 2011, was unanimously acclaimed by the press: “Cavaradossi was a triumph”, wrote Classical Source, [His voice] is a force-of-nature that makes Cavaradossi heroic.” In this production of Puccini’s masterpiece by Luc Bondy, Marcello will star opposite two acclaimed sopranos who share the role of Tosca: Maria Guleghina (Nov. 6, 11) and Oksana Dika (Nov.14, 18, 21).
