Puccini’s “Manon Lescaut” at the Wiener Staatsoper
On June 20, 2016, Marcello Giordani will appear on the stage of the Wiener Staatsoper to reprise a role that he has performed in some of the major opera houses of the world: the Chevalier Des Grieux in Puccini’s Manon Lescaut. From his debut in the role in 2000, in Zürich, to his performance at the Metropolitan in January 2008, e more recently in the Teatro Municipal of Sao Paulo in Brazil, his interpretation of the role has been acclaimed by audiences and critics. Of his performance as Manon’s lover at the Metropolitan, the critic of the New York Times wrote: “Here was the real thing, an Italian tenor who sang with ringing power and sweeping fervor.” Sharing the stage with Giordani will be renowned soprano Anna Netrebko in the role of the protagonist, and baritone David Pershall as Lescaut.

In December 2015, Marcello will return to the Staatsoper Hamburg to reprise a role that he has performed in most of the major opera houses of the world: Des Grieux in Puccini’s Manon Lescaut. From his debut in the role in 2000, in Zürich, to his performance at the Metropolitan in January 2008, e more recently in the Teatro Municipal of Sao Paulo in Brazil, he has been acclaimed by audiences and critics. Of his performance as Manon’s lover at the Metropolitan, the critic of the New York Times wrote: “Here was the real thing, an Italian tenor who sang with ringing power and sweeping fervor.” On the stage of the Staatsoper he will be joined by soprano Amarilli Nizza as Manon, baritone Kartal Karagadik as Lescaut, and bass Tigran Martirossian as Geronte.

“Tosca” at the Metropolitan Opera
On November 6, 2015, Marcello returns to the Metropolitan Opera to sing one of his signature roles, Cavaradossi in Puccini’s Tosca. He sang Cavaradossi at the Met in previous seasons, and has appeared in the role in all of the major opera houses the world over, including Japan and China. Of his performance at the Met in 2013, the critic of the New York Times praised his “powerful bright top notes and an ardent, expressive style…” His performance at the Royal Opera House in 2011, was unanimously acclaimed by the press: “Cavaradossi was a triumph”, wrote Classical Source, [His voice] is a force-of-nature that makes Cavaradossi heroic.” In this production of Puccini’s masterpiece by Luc Bondy, Marcello will star opposite two acclaimed sopranos who share the role of Tosca: Maria Guleghina (Nov. 6, 11) and Oksana Dika (Nov.14, 18, 21).
