Les Troyens: An opera of “epic” proportions

In April 2008, Marcello Giordani joined the Boston Symphony Orchestra conducted by James Levine in a concert performance of Berlioz’ monumental opera Les Troyens to sing for the first time the role of Enée. In December and January of the 2012-13 opera season, Gordani will reprise the challenging role of the Trojan hero in the Met’s revival of the opera.  The production by Francesca Zambello, last staged at the Met in 2003, combines Part I and Part  II of Berlioz’ masterpiece.

A message to my fans and friends

Many of you may already know of my decision to withdraw from the last four performances of Les Troyens. The decision was made in mutual agreement with the administration of The Met and, in order to counteract any misunderstanding which leads to erroneous assumptions and unpleasant conclusions, I want to say that it is with profound regret that I give up one of the most interesting roles in the entire operatic repertoire.

Puccini’s Turandot at the Met

In October 2012, Marcello returns to the Metropolitan Opera to reprise the role of Calaf in Puccini’s Turandot which he sang for the first time at the Met in 2009. His debut in this role took place in 2003 in Torre del Lago, Italy, and he has since sung it in many of the major opera houses of the world including Teatro alla Scala of Milan, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Terme of Caracalla in Rome and the Hungarian State Opera of Budapest.

Andrea Chénier with the Ochestra “la Verdi” of Milan

On June 23, Marcello Giordani will appear on the stage of the Auditorium Fondazione Cariplo to reprise one of his favorite roles, that of the revolutionary French poet Andrea Chénier, with the Orchestra Sinfonica “la Verdi” of Milan.  Umberto Giordano’s best-known opera will close the symphonic season of “la Verdi” with two additional concert performances of the opera on June 26th and 28th.
