Puccini’s Turandot at ABAO-OLBE opera of Bilbao

On May 17, 2014, Marcello Giordani will appear on the stage of ABAO-OLBE in Bilbao to sing the role of the unknown prince in Puccini’s last opera Turandot, next to the Turandot of Austrian soprano Martina Serafin. After his debut in the role at Torre del Lago in 2003, he has appeared as Calaf in some of the most important opera theaters of the world including the Metropolitan Opera of New York, the Teatro alla Scala of Milan, the Terme of Caracalla, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and the Opera Theatre of Budapest.

Of his performance at the Met in 2009, the New York Times wrote: “He sang phrases with plush Puccini-tenor warmth and dispatched some ringing top notes, including the climactic high note of the hit-tune aria “Nessun dorma..” And the New York Post stated:”.His red-blooded ‘Nessun dorma’ won bravos even before the music finished.

His performance of Turandot at the Metropolitan Opera was transmitted to movie theaters around the world as part of the Met’s “Live in HD” series, and is available in DVD at most of the major online record outlets including the Met Opera Shop and Amazon.com.
