Bizet’s “Carmen” at Semperoper Dresden

Marcello Giordani made his debut as Don José in Bizet’s Carmen at the Teatro Massimo of Palermo in 2004. He has since sung the role in some of the most prestigious international opera houses including the Metropolitan Opera, the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma and, more recently, the Royal Opera House Muscat in the Sultanate of Oman. Each of his appearances as Carmen’s lover has been met with the acclaim of the critics who praised his interpretation of a role that is often overshadowed by the strong and captivating presence of the protagonist.

Opera Online declared his performance at the Metropolitan “nothing short of electrifying and his voice nothing short of owe-inspiring”, and the Associated Press wrote: “Giordani is one of the few tenors who can carry off Don Jose in the huge Met auditorium, able to sustain high notes that ring… His “Flower Song” was touching, and he saved his best for the final act confrontation with Carmen.”

On November 22nd, Marcello makes his house debut in the role of the lovelorn soldier in a new production of Bizet’s masterpiece by Semperoper Dresden. For additional performance dates, go to the Engagements page of this website. Tickets can be purchased online or by phone: +49 351 4911705
