Turandot at Festival Puccini of Torre del Lago

IOn July 13, 2013, Marcello Giordani will appear on the stage of the Festival Puccini of Torre del Lago to sing Calaf in Puccini’s Turandot. It was in Torre del Lago that he made his debut in the role in 2003, and since then he has sung it in many of the most important opera theaters in the world in including the Teatro alla Scala of Milan, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Terme of Caracalla in Rome, the opera theater of Budapest, and the Teatro Massimo Bellini of Catania. Of his performance at the Met, the New York Times wrote: “He sang phrases with plush Puccini-tenor warmth and dispatched some ringing top notes, including the climactic high note of the hit-tune aria ‘Nessun dorma’.”

The opera, based on a play by the Italian dramatist Carlo Gozzi, remained unfinished by the time of Puccini’s death and was later completed by composer Franco Alfano.

The “Festival Puccini of Torre del Lago” is an international tourist destination, and the only one in the world dedicated to Giacomo Puccini. Every summer, in homage to the maestro, the Festival welcomes about 40,000 spectators in its open-air theater, and tourists from all over the world can visit the house where Puccini lived and composed some of the most famous opera masterpieces.

Please check the calendar page of this website for additional performance dates. Check the Festival’s website for ticket and program information.
