Cavalleria Rusticana at the Opéra National de Paris

On May 6 and 11, Marcello Giordani will appear on the stage of the Opéra National de Paris in Mascagni’s one-act opera Cavalleria Rusticana, which will be presented in a double-bill together with Leoncavallo’s I Pagliacci.

The opera is based on a short story by the Sicilian writer Giovanni Verga, the precursor of the Italian verismo in literature, and is considered to be, together with Pagliacci, the opera most representative of the Italian “verismo”. The story is simple and, like a Greek tragedy, takes place in one place in one day, presenting in a realistic and direct way characters and events of every day life.

Marcello’s debut in the role took place in April 2011 at the Gran Teatre de Liceu of Barcelona, and he was hailed by the press as “… an exceptional Turiddo, one of the best around today.” (Seen and Heard International)

Sharing the stage with Marcello in this production of the opera by renown stage director Giancarlo del Monaco will be soprano Violetta Urmana as Santuzza, mezzo soprano Stefania Toczyska as mamma Lucia, baritone Franck Ferrari as Alfio, and mezzo soprano Nicole Piccolomini as Lola.

Please check the Paris Opera website for performance schedule and ticket information.
